ご挨拶

Greetings

On May 30th, 2024, "Hitotsuchi", an e-commerce media outlet that conveys the craftsmanship of Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, will launch! We look forward to your support.

Seto City is known as the "City of Fire, City of Earth," and has been producing pottery for over a thousand years. The word "setomono," which collectively refers to ceramics, originates from Seto City. We run a lodging facility and souvenir shop in this town. While the city is little known as a tourist destination, it has a long history of manufacturing, and the more you learn about it, the more fascinating it becomes.

We hope that more people will learn about the town, so we built Masukichi, a lodging facility that serves as the gateway to the town, published a guidebook to help people walk around the town, and opened Hitotsuchi, a souvenir shop that conveys Seto's craftsmanship.

In Seto, pure white, high-quality clay that is easy to mold is extracted from a clay quarry in the center of town. The clay excavated through open-cut mining resembles the Grand Canyon of America, and is known locally as the "Seto Canyon." However, since the general public is not allowed to enter, its existence is not well known nationwide.

In keeping with the times, Seto has produced everything from pottery and porcelain to tableware, dolls, and industrial products. It is produced in such large quantities that ceramics are called "Setomono." There is no uniformity to Setomono. However, its greatest feature is that it can be used to make anything.

In recent years, many artists, writers, and independent restaurants have been drawn to this creative soil. "Hitotsuchi" will introduce the craftsmanship that Seto is experiencing today as a new kind of "Setomono."

We plan to provide information on items other than those sold on this website. We hope that you will be interested and that your thoughts will turn to pottery, the people who make it, and the town itself.
